Lessons I Learned in 2019 & How I Plan to Tackle 2020

If you’re like me, 2019 was a mixed bag of successes, failures, excitement, and disappointment. I had tons of amazing property sales, built new client relationships, and experienced immense business growth. However, I also had times of confusion, sadness, and defeat. While these times were challenging, they led me to some crucial lessons I’m taking with me into 2020. I hope my 2019 lessons resonate with you and empower you to make 2020 your best year yet.

Lesson #1: Rest, Recharge, and Rejuvenate

The real estate business is notoriously fast-paced and competitive. You blink and your competition is a step ahead. In 2019, I learned all about burnout and what happens when you don’t let yourself rest. To operate at full capacity, my batteries need to be charged. That means sleeping well, eating well, and taking time for myself – and not only when I am sick. I intend to schedule time each week for myself to rest and recover so that I can be my best for everyone, including me!

Lesson #2: Set Business AND Personal Goals

My business had its best year EVER in 2019. I set detailed goals at the beginning of the year and worked my behind off to achieve them. However, something I wish I spent more energy on was my own personal development. There’s always room to grow and improve your skills, mindset, and attitude. This year, I’m setting both business-related goals and goals for my personal growth.

Lesson #3: Networking is Always a Good Idea

Networking is a huge part of being a successful real estate agent. It’s how you connect with new clients and build relationships. I absolutely love meeting potential clients in person and getting to know each other on a human level, not just online. In 2019, I didn’t network as much as I would have liked. I let other business tasks overwhelm my schedule. This year, I plan on spending more time doing what I love: meeting new people.

Lesson #4: Lean on Your Friends and Family

I’m going to say this frankly: divorce sucks. If your 2019 included a breakup, separation, or divorce, I understand how you’re feeling because I’ve been there. In fact, as a result of my experience, this has become an area of expertise for me. I truly enjoy being able to help people get through this difficult time and guiding them to make wise real estate decisions in their particular circumstance.

Having said that, my biggest piece of advice, and something I want to do more of in 2020, is to lean on your friends and family. Spend more time around those you love. Fill your free time with laughter, hugs, and joyful moments. I promise this will ease some of the pain and help you heal faster.

My Plan for 2020

2019 was an amazing year, but I want 2020 to be even better. I don’t just mean for my real estate business, but for my own personal growth and wellness, too. My plan this year is to slow down and truly enjoy every moment. I want to be present for my family and for my clients. I’m going to continue doing what I love, helping my clients buy and sell their properties, while also allowing myself to rest.

I’d love to hear the lessons you learned in 2019. How are you planning on making 2020 even better? Send me your thoughts and if you’re interested in buying or selling property this year, contact me to get started.
