Comforting, welcoming and homey. Those are all the things your new house should be, and the neighbourhood surrounding it. The area you choose for you and your family to live in is just as important as the home itself, especially with school aged children to consider.
The Beaches
If you’re making a move in the near future, a family friendly area worth considering is “The Beaches”. This neighbourhood is highly sought after for families that are looking for a sense of community, while still being close to the amenities of the downtown core. A highlight of living in this area is the beautiful beach and boardwalk by the sand. It’s perfect for strolling with your little ones in tow, or walking your dog in all four seasons. Also located in the area is the beautiful Kew Gardens. This 6.5 hectare park features seasonal flower beds and a library. There’s also a wading pool, playground and a number of different trails. What better place to spend a weekend or evening with your family?
Leslieville
With a family friendly, hip atmosphere, Leslieville is the perfect spot to settle down with your loved ones. This neighbourhood features a number of excellent public schools to choose from to help your kids get a good education and make new friends locally. It’s tree-lined streets are home to many wonderful shops and restaurants including Queen Margherita Pizza - perfect for a family evening inside, or Greta Solomon’s, a French bistro, a great spot for a romantic date night away from the kids. With great local shops such as Scout, the Artist-Led Indigenous Art Market, and Good Neighbour to name just a few, it is easy to support local and easily become part of the community.
Riverdale
If you’re looking for an area outside of downtown to raise your family, Riverdale is a great place to consider. Welcome to one of Toronto’s biggest neighbourhoods, known for its beautiful Victorian homes and great shopping options. There’s something for every member of your family to enjoy here, with everything you need close to home.
It’s also far enough away from downtown for residents to be able to enjoy some peace and quiet, yet close enough that you’ll still be able to enjoy all the downtown amenities just a short commute away. The area offers more of a homey vibe featuring a lot of detached homes compared with other areas where there are considerably more high rises. It is also home to three beautiful parks - Riverdale Park, Withrow Park and Jimmie Simpson Park - perfect for an evening walk by yourself or with your family.
Deer Park
This lively yet mature neighbourhood is perfect for young families! This neighbourhood is home to a few gems; Rosedale Ravine, features large trees, flowers, and a walking trail. The Rosehill Reservoir has a picturesque walking trail, and the Vale of Avoca - a large viaduct over Yellow Creek. The heart of the neighbourhood is Yonge & St Clair providing access to all of your family’s daily needs within walking distance of home. And then there are the excellent schools and the incredible local parks. This neighbourhood truly has it all.
